National Dental Hygiene Month
October is National Dental Hygiene month! Throughout the month, the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) is focusing on raising awareness about the importance of good oral health. Their message centers around the four components of good oral hygiene:
- brushing for two minutes twice a day
- flossing once a day
- rinsing with mouthwash
- chewing with sugar-free gum
Our office prefers natural oral hygiene products, so we recommend chewing with xylitol gum instead of sugar-free gum. Xylitol has natural anti-cavity properties. The ADHA's website (http://www.adha.org/national-dental-hygiene-month) has detailed information about correct brushing and flossing techniques. In addition to proper oral hygiene at home, regular visits to the dentist are critical to good oral and overall health.
To celebrate National Dental Hygiene Month and promote the importance of good oral hygiene, we are giving away a Sonicare elite toothbrush! All patients who come in for a hygiene appointment during the month are eligible to win.
